NOTE:
  • Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.
  • Put on gloves to protect your hands.
  1. With power tailgate: Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio and the navigation system, and then write down the radio station and XM channel presets.
  2. With power tailgate: Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
    NOTE: Open the tailgate by using the emergency lever while adjusting the tailgate (see WITH POWER TAILGATE ).
  3. Remove these items:
  4. Slightly loosen each bolt and nut.
  5. Adjust the tailgate (A) alignment in the following sequence:
    • Pull down the rear portion of the headliner (see HEADLINER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ). Take care not to bend the headliner excessively. Adjust the tailgate hinges (B) right and left, as well as forward and rearward, using the elongated holes.
    • Turn the tailgate edge cushions (C), in or out as necessary, to make the tailgate fit flush with the body at the side edges.
    • Remove the rear trim panel lid (D).
    • Adjust the fit between the tailgate and tailgate opening by moving the striker (E).

  6. Tighten each bolt and nut securely.
  7. Check that the tailgate opens properly and locks securely.
  8. Reinstall the support struts securely.
  9. Apply touch-up paint to the hinge mounting nuts and around the hinges.
  10. Apply multipurpose grease to the pivot portion of the tailgate hinges (A) as indicated by the arrows shown Fig 2 .

  11. Reinstall all remaining removed parts.
  12. With power tailgate: Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
    NOTE:
    • Enter the anti-theft code for the radio and the navigation system, then enter the customer's radio station and XM radio channel presets.
    • Reset the clock.
    • Perform the power window control unit reset procedure (see RESETTING THE POWER WINDOW CONTROL UNIT ).
