- Test the thermostat for correct operation. Refer to Thermostat Diagnosis (Overheating) or Thermostat Diagnosis (Slow to Heat) .
- Test the engine cooling system for overheating. Refer to Engine Overheating .
- Inspect the water pump and coolant flow for correct operation. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LS4) or Water Pump Replacement (L26/L32) .
- Inspect the engine for worn/leaking/cracked cylinder heads or engine block. Refer to the following:
- Coolant in Combustion Chamber and Coolant in Engine Oil for the 3.8L engine.
- Coolant in Combustion Chamber and Coolant in Engine Oil for the 5.3L engine.
