  1. Lightly grease the inside edge of the rubber plenum duct. Clean any debris from the cylinder head or intake manifold. Install the new gaskets to the intake manifold. Ensure the PCV valve hose is firmly connected to the fitting at the front of the intake manifold, prior to installation.
  2. Position the rear of the intake manifold into the plenum duct. See Figure. Position the front of the intake manifold downward on to the cylinders heads. Loosely install the 10 bolts attaching the intake manifold to the cylinder heads.
  3. Tighten the intake manifold bolts in sequence. See Fig 1. Tighten the intake manifold bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure that the plenum duct is fully attached to the rear of the intake manifold. Tighten the plenum duct clamp to specification.
  4. Lubricate the intake manifold fuel injector bores with GM Light Mineral Oil (9981704), clean engine oil, or equivalent. Do not force the injectors into position. Install the entire fuel rail and injector assembly into the intake manifold by pressing the fuel rail and injector simultaneously into the correct position.
  5. Install the 4 bolts attaching the fuel rail to the intake manifold. Tighten the fuel rail bolts to specification. Connect the 8 electrical connectors to the 8 fuel injectors. Position the engine coolant heater wire on to the fuel rail studs (if equipped). Install the 2 pushnuts. Install the fuel rail bracket retaining nut to the rear lift bracket. Tighten the fuel rail bracket retaining nut to specification.
  6. Install the quick connect fittings to the fuel rail. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS  under FUEL SYSTEMS. Connect the vacuum tubes to the AIR solenoid. Connect the fuel regulator vacuum tube. Connect the PCV fresh air tube to the camshaft cover. Connect the PCV dirty air tube to the camshaft cover.
  7. Connect the coil module connectors to the coil modules located in the camshaft covers. Install the negative battery cable. Install the rear seat cushion. Inspect for fuel leaks using the following procedures: Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  8. Position the intake manifold sight shield to the engine. Install the 2 intake manifold sight shield nuts. Tighten the nuts to specification.
