Section 17 (Analog Instrument Panels): Description
Instrument panel cluster gauges include: analog speedometer/odometer, engine coolant temperature gauge, engine oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge, PRNDL display, tachometer (if equipped) and voltmeter (if equipped). Instrument panel cluster indicators include: ABS Indicator, air bag indicator, BRAKE indicator, CHANGE ENGINE OIL indicator, charge indicator, CRUISE control indicator, DOOR AJAR indicator, fasten safety belt indicator, high beam indicator, HIGH BEAM OUT indicator, HOT COOLANT TEMP indicator, LOW COOLANT LEVEL indicator, LOW ENG OIL LEVEL indicator, LOW FUEL indicator, LOW OIL PRESSURE indicator, LOW TIRE PRESSURE indicator, LOW WASHER FLUID indicator, Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) indicator, SECURITY indicator, service traction system indicator, SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator, TRAC Off indicator, TRACTION ACTIVE indicator, TRUNK OPEN indicator and turn signal indicators.
Vehicles are also equipped with a Driver Information Center (DIC). When DIC powers up it will display all segments for 2 seconds. In absence of communications with DIC, a double dash (--) displays in digits section. An error of speed sensor or fuel sensor will cause -E- to be displayed. There are 2 buttons on DIC, RESET button and MODE button. DIC calculates and displays average fuel economy (AVG), average speed (AVG SPEED), compass/temperature, fuel used, instantaneous fuel economy (INST) and trip range (RANGE). DIC has MODE button and RESET button. MODE button changes mode being displayed. Pressing RESET button for one second resets mode displayed.
Audible warnings alert driver of a system concern or a critical vehicle condition. Radio generates audible warnings through left front speaker. Radio receives audible warning requests via class 2 serial data line. If radio receives multiple audible warning requests, warning with highest priority sounds first. Multifunction alarm generates audible warnings on vehicles not equipped with radio. Audible warning priority and pulse rates are; Fast rate chime at 200 pulses per minute, Medium rate chime at 150 pulses per minute, Slow rate chime at 50 pulses per minute and Single chime.

When to See a Mechanic
