Power Tailgate Motor Test

2002 Honda Civic SiSECTION Power Tailgate Motor Test

  1. Open the tailgate and remove the left rear pillar (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - PILLAR AREAS ).
  2. Disconnect the 2P connector (A) from the power tailgate motor (B).

  3. Close the tailgate manually.
  4. Check the motor operation by connecting battery power to the No. 2 terminal and ground to the No. 1 terminal. The motor should run (tailgate open).
    NOTE: Be careful not to pinch your hands.
  5. After opening the tailgate, connect battery power to the No. 1 terminal and ground the No. 2 terminal. The motor should run (tailgate closed).
  6. If the motor does not run or fails to run smoothly, replace the drive unit assembly (see DRIVE UNIT REPLACEMENT  ).
