DESCRIPTION:
This journal contains additional fault tracing information for issues with the Keyless Drive function.
P3 vehicles with Keyless Drive may experience intermittent or permanent problems with the receiver causing one or more of the following symptoms:
1. Short range when using the remote control buttons; the customer needs to be very close to the vehicle instead of the normal range of up to 20 meters (60').
2. "Car Key Not Found" message during failed start attempt.
3. "Key Removed From Car" message when the car is running and a door is open and closed.
4. Short range when using the keyless unlocking/locking function. The remote control must be very close to the vehicle to unlock/lock the car instead of the normal range of up to 1.5 meters (5').
In the case of a permanent fault, DTC KVM-U201F13 may be set.
Note that if a Keyless Drive remote control is kept together with a mobile phone in a pocket or a purse, the signals to the vehicle may be blocked. They should be kept at least 10-15cm (4-6") apart as described
in TJ 24016.
SERVICE:
It is helpful to have both remote controls before fault tracing Keyless Drive symptoms.
Symptoms 1, 2 and 3:
Test if the symptom occurs with both remote controls. If so, then the fault is likely in the remote receiver. If the symptom occurs with only one remote control, the the fault is likely in the remote
control.
Symptom 4:
Test the function with both remote controls at all 3 external antennas (right, left and rear). If both remote controls have short range at more than one antenna, the fault is likely in the remote
receiver.
If the range is short with only one remote control or at only one external antenna the fault is probably not in the remote receiver. Fault trace accordingly.
