Transmission, Electrical Check
Required special tools and equipment
- VAG 1526 A Hand multimeter
- VAG 1594 A Adapter set
- VAG 1598/14 Test box (base unit)
- VAG 1598/20 Test box
Test requirements:
- Battery voltage in order.
- Fuses 15 and 31 OK.
- Ground connections in order:
NOTE:
- The socket identification of the test box VAG 1598/20 is identical with the terminal identification of the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- in wiring diagram.
- The specified values are valid for an ambient temperature from 0°C...40°C.
- If the readings obtained differ from the specified values, determine fault on the basis of the wiring diagram.
- If the readings obtained differ only slightly from the specified values, clean sockets and connectors of the testers and test leads and repeat test. Before replacing the particular components, test wiring and connections and, particularly if specified values are below 10 Ohms, repeat resistance measurement on component.
Electrical Check
The transmission control module is located in front of the right-hand seat under the carpet in footwell.
- Switch ignition off, release multi-pin connector in direction of arrow, and pull off transmission control module.
- Connect multi-pin connector to the test box VAG 1598/20 -1-, by swinging in -2- and then lock -3-.
Using test box VAG 1598/18 the wiring can be checked according to wiring diagram.
After electrical checks
- Connect multi-pin connector to transmission control module -J217- connector housing -1-, by swinging in -2- and then lock -3-.
