Air Bag Control Module: Testing and Inspection

Airbag Control Module, Coding

Coding is only possible when a new control module is used.
- Connect Scan Tool.
- Switch on ignition.

The Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75- lights up continuously.
- Press button -1- for "Rapid Data Transfer" mode.

Enter address word XX

- Press buttons -1- and -5- (the address word of the vehicle system to be tested "Airbag" is entered with 15).

- Confirm with -Q- button.

Indicated on display (see parts catalog for latest control module version).

- Press buttons -0- and -7- (with 07 the function "Code Control Module" is selected).

- Enter code number according to Quick Reference Volkswagen Airbag Equipment and Coding table:
See Additional Information, Quick Reference Volkswagen Airbag Equipment and Coding table for appropriate vehicle and model year
- Confirm with -Q- button.

Control module identification number with letter index, code number and workshop code is displayed.

If contents of display are as shown then coding is successful.

If the control module identification number entered is not accepted the following will be displayed:

Indicated on display:

Coding 00000 WSC 12345

In this case the control module has not been programmed with vehicle data.

Therefore, coding is not possible.

The Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75- remains on.

A check must then be completed to see if the correct control module has been installed (compare Part No. and letter index), or whether an incorrect code number has been entered.

Ending function:
- Press -> button.
