2003 Volkswagen Passat Sedan (3B3) V6-2.8L (ATQ)SECTION Diagnostic Mode 6: Check Test Of Parts Not Constantly Monitored
Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored
Function
This diagnostic mode displays the test results of emission relevant components and systems which are not continuously monitored.
The values of the individual test results must reach the specified value or must be within the min.- and max.- limits.
Test-ID Components
01: Catalytic converter
03: Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system
05: Tank ventilation system
09: Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor -G62-
Test-ID 01: Catalytic converter
Test requirements
- There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory, Diagnostic mode 3: Check DTC memory. Diagnostic Mode 3: Check DTC Memory
- Coolant temperature must be at least 80 degrees C, Diagnostic mode 1: Check measuring values; PID 5, Coolant temperature. Diagnostic Mode 1: Check Measuring Values
Procedure
- Connect diagnostic tester. Diagnostic Tester, Connecting
- Perform a 15 minute road test in the highest gear or in the highest driving mode on a level driving surface.
The following operating conditions must be met during road test:
- Engine speed approx. 1800 to 2200 RPM, Diagnostic mode 1: Check measuring values; PID 12, engine rotations per minute (RPM). Diagnostic Mode 1: Check Measuring Values
- Vehicle speed constant 90 km/h, Diagnostic mode 1: Check measuring values; PID 13, Vehicle speed. Diagnostic Mode 1: Check Measuring Values
Observe the safety precautions that apply to road tests.
- Let engine run at idle.
- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".
- Select the "Test-ID 01: Catalytic converter".
- Check specified values at idle.
NOTE:
- Bank 1 = Cylinder bank 1, in direction of travel, right
- Bank 2 = Cylinder bank 2, in direction of travel, left
- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
If the specified values are exceeded:
- Replace the respective exhaust pipe with catalytic converter:
- Right front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter 3 Item 3
- Left front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter, Item 14
Test-ID 03: Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system
Test requirements
- There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory, Diagnostic mode 3: Check DTC memory.
Let vehicle cool off with the ignition switched off until the following conditions are met:
- Intake Air Temperature (IAT) 10 to 50 degrees C, Diagnostic mode 1: Check measuring values; PID 15: Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Diagnostic Mode 1: Check Measuring Values
- Coolant temperature approx. Intake Air Temperature (IAT) (10 to 50 degrees C), Diagnostic mode 1: Check measuring values; PID 5, Coolant temperature. Diagnostic Mode 1: Check Measuring Values
Procedure
- Connect diagnostic tester. Diagnostic Tester, Connecting
- Start engine and let run at idle for at least 15 minutes.
- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".
- Select the "Test-ID 03: Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system"
- Check specified values at idle.
NOTE:
- Bank 1 = Cylinder bank 1, in direction of travel, right
- Bank 2 = Cylinder bank 2, in direction of travel, left
- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
If the specified values are not reached:
- Check secondary air system for proper seal. Testing and Inspection
- Check Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor -V101-. Testing and Inspection
Test-ID 05: Tank ventilation system
Test requirements
- There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory, Diagnostic mode 3: Check DTC memory.
- Coolant temperature must be 80 to 110 degrees C, Diagnostic mode 1: Check measuring values; PID 5, Coolant temperature. Diagnostic Mode 1: Check Measuring Values
- Throttle valve angle 12.0 to 16.0 %, Diagnostic mode 1: Check measuring values; PID 17: Throttle valve position (absolute) Diagnostic Mode 1: Check Measuring Values
Procedure
- Connect diagnostic tester. Diagnostic Tester, Connecting
- Start engine and let run at idle for at least 15 minutes.
- Under address word 33, select "Diagnostic mode 6: Check test results of components that are not continuously monitored".
- Select the "Test-ID 05: Tank ventilation system".
- Check specified values at idle.
- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
If the specified values are exceeded:
- EVAP canister system, checking for proper seal. Testing and Inspection
- Leak detection pump (LDP) -V144-, checking. Testing and Inspection
Test-ID 09: Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor -G62-
Test requirement
- There must not be any DTCs stored in DTC memory, Diagnostic mode 3: Check DTC memory.
Procedure
- Connect diagnostic tester. Diagnostic Tester, Connecting
- Perform a road test until a coolant temperature of 80 to 100 degrees C has been reached, Diagnostic mode 1: Check measuring values; PID 5, Coolant temperature. Diagnostic Mode 1: Check Measuring Values
Observe the safety precautions that apply to road tests.
- Switch ignition off.
- Start engine at a coolant temperature of 80 to 90 degrees C and let it run at idle.
- Perform a 5 minute road test in the highest gear or in the highest driving mode on a level driving surface.
