- Connect VAG 1551 scan tool. Refer to "Selectable Functions When Using VAG 1551", under "Restraint Systems", Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks
- Initiate On Board Diagnostic (OBD). On Board Diagnostic (OBD), Initiating Program
- Switch ignition on.
- Press button -1- for "Rapid data transfer" mode.
- Switch printer on with "PRINT" button (warning lamp in button lights up).
- Press buttons -0- and -1- to select "Check Control Module Versions" function 01.

The control module identification is indicated on the VAG 1551 scan tool display.

- 1C0 962 258 P = Part No, of control module (for up-to-date control module version)
- Central locking = system designation
- 0G = software version
