Radio Frequency Remote Control, Programming Ignition Keys (Adaptation)
NOTE:
- If a new or additional ignition keys are required, they must be adapted (matched) to the control electronics.
- The adaptation procedure must always be carried out for all the ignition keys, including the existing ones.
- The number of keys already programmed will be displayed when "Adaptation" (matching) function 10 is selected.
- The matching can be interrupted with the -C- button of the VAG 1551.
Requirements
- All ignition keys available. If no old ignition key is available See "Lost key procedure"
- Key fob with covered secret number is available. If not
- Insert mechanically programmed ignition key in ignition lock.
- Connecting scan tool.
- Initiate On Board Diagnostic (OBD).

- A button must be pressed once on each of the radio frequency keys to be programmed (in example above, 3 keys).
- Switch ignition off and remove ignition key.
- Perform functional check (e.g. 3) of radio frequency keys.
NOTE:
- Successful adaptation can be confirmed by Read Measuring Value Block (function 08), display group 009, or display group 013.
- All 3 keys can be programmed in one adaptation cycle.
- Adaptation of all keys (pressing a button) must occur within 15 seconds.
The matching of ignition keys is automatically completed when:
- Number of keys to be programmed is reached.
- A button of one of the keys to be programmed is pressed frequently.
- Permissible matching period of 15 seconds is exceeded (DTC is stored).
- Press buttons -0- and -2- to select "Check DTC Memory" function 02.
If there is no DTC stored, the matching of the keys has been successfully completed.
