Engine Control Module, Replacing

Special tools and equipment
- V.A.G 1551 scan tool with cable VAG 1551/3

Work sequence
- First print out the control module identification of the previous control module coding as follows:
- Connect the V.A.G 1551 scan tool ((VAG 1552). Then switch ignition on and select engine control module with the "Address word" 01.
(Connecting scan tool and selecting engine control module.). Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Test Requirements and Work Procedures/VAG 1551 Scan Tool", Testing and Inspection

Control module identification and coding will be indicated on display, e.g.:


06A906032BQ 2.0L R4/2V G*3657 ->
Coding 00003 WSC 00000


- Print out the control module identification by pressing the scan tool print button.
- Press the -> key.
- Press keys 0 and 6 for the "End data transfer" function and confirm input with the Q key.

Indicated on display:

Select function XX


- Switch off ignition.


NOTE: If the control module version installed in the vehicle is not displayed, replace control module.


- Remove wiper arms and cowl panel:
- Release connector from control module and pull off.







- Press control module to the right and pull out.
- Insert new control module and press to the left.
- Match new control module to throttle valve control part.
- On vehicles with cruise control system: Check whether this function has been enabled (activated). If *G* is not evident in the control module identification, activate the cruise control system. Refer to "Scan Tool Testing/Test Requirements and Work Procedures/VAG 1551 Scan Tool", Testing and Inspection

Vehicles with automatic transmission:
- Learning kick-down point.
- Adapt control module for automatic transmission:

Continued for all vehicles
- Then subsequently check the DTC memory of the new engine control module and erase the DTC memory if necessary.
- Perform idling check and carry out test drive.

During road test the following operating conditions must be fulfilled:
- The coolant temperature must exceed 80 °C.
- When the temperature is reached, the operating conditions
Idling
Part throttle
Enrichment
Full throttle
Overrun
must be attained several times.
- Again check the control module DTC memory
- Generate readiness code.
