Special tools and equipment
- V.A.G 1551 scan tool or VAG 1552 with cable VAG 1551/3
- VAG 1788/10 Engine speed adjuster
Test conditions
- Coolant temperature MIN. 80°C, See display group 04, display zone 3.
Functional check
- Connect V.A.G 1551 scan tool ((VAG1552). Start engine and select "Address word" 01 of engine control module. When doing this the engine must be running at idling speed. [1][2]Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX
- Press keys 0 and 4 for the function "Introduction of basic setting" and confirm entry with Q key.
Indicated on display:

Input display group number XXX
- Press keys 0, 3 and 4 for "Display group number 34" and confirm entry with Q key.
Indicated on display: (1 to 4 = Display zones)
System In basic setting 34 ->

- Maintain approx. 2300 RPM until display field 4 jumps from "Test OFF" to "Test ON". Catalytic converter temperature in display field 2 must be at least 365 °C.
- Maintain engine speed at approx. 2300 RPM until display field 4 indicates the result of the aging test.
Specified value "B1-S1 OK"
If the specification is not obtained:
- Press -> key.
- Press keys 0 and 6 for the function "End output" and confirm entry with the Q key.
- Switch off ignition.
If the specifications are not attained:
- Road test vehicle to free Oxygen sensor of possible residue and repeat test.
Observe valid safety precautions for road testing.
If the specifications are again not attained:
- Replace Oxygen sensor -G39-.
- Erase DTC memory to put learned values in a neutral setting
