Diesel Direct Fuel Injection Engine Control Module -J248- must be recorded if vehicle code is not displayed or ECM has been replaced.

Special tools and equipment
- Scan Tool VAG 1551 or vehicle system tester VAG 1552 with cable VAG 1551/3

Work sequence
- Connect Scan Tool VAG 1551 (VAG 1552) and select engine electronics control unit with the "Address word" 01. When doing this the ignition must be switched on.

- Press -> button.

- Switch ignition off and then on again.

NOTE: The coding entered will be activated by switching the ignition off and then on again. If after entering the valid code the ignition is not switched off and on again, the fault "Control unit incorrectly coded" in the fault memory cannot be erased.

- Check DTC memory and, if necessary, repair any malfunctions and then erase.
- Read-out the readiness code. If the DTC memory has been erased or the Diesel Direct Fuel Injection Engine Control Module -J248- was disconnected from permanent battery positive (B+), the readiness code must be generated again.
