Scan Tool Testing and Procedures

2000 Volkswagen GTI (1J1) L4-1.8L Turbo (AWD)SECTION Scan Tool Testing and Procedures

Function:
Cruise control functions are controlled by the Engine Control Module (ECM). There is no separate control module for the cruise control.

In addition to the standard equipment, vehicles with cruise control have a cruise control switch (E45) and the button for cruise control (set) (E227), located in either the turn signal switch stalk or multifunction steering wheel.

In case of cruise control function complaints, the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) of the Engine Control Module (ECM) system must be checked for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) first.

Required for troubleshooting:
- VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) with cable VAG 1551/3
- Multimeter Fluke 83
- Test Box VW1598/18
- Connector Test Kit VW1594
- Valid wiring diagram

CAUTION! DO NOT damage, enlarge or bend connector terminals or cavities by forcing probes into them when performing electrical checks. Always use connector test kit VW 1594 to make the necessary electrical connections.
