The Engine Speed Sensor is located on the left side of the engine block by the flywheel.

The engine speed sensor scans the teeth on the starter ring gear. The sensor scans the number of teeth per unit of time to produce an engine speed signal. This signal is used for engine speed and ignition timing angle.

The engine can not be started if the signal from the engine speed sensor is not present.
