Inspection [12/2024 - ]: Procedure

2025 Toyota 4Runner SR5, 4WDSECTION Procedure
  1. INSPECT NO. 2 ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR (except Mexico Models)
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition Result
      1 (E2) - 2 (THTW) 20°C (68°F) 2.32 to 2.59 kΩ
      1 (E2) - 2 (THTW) 80°C (176°F) 0.310 to 0.326 kΩ
      NOTE:

If checking the No. 2 engine coolant temperature sensor in water, be careful not to allow water to contact the terminals. After checking, wipe the water off the No. 2 engine coolant temperature sensor.

If the result is not as specified, replace the No. 2 engine coolant temperature sensor.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
