Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Adjustments

1. Remove the battery cover, battery and battery tray.
2. Move the selector lever to position 1 (to relieve the cable of tension) and undo the lever's nut.
3. Move the selector lever to position N. remove the selector lever cable lever and few setting tool. Gear selector position sensor 87 92 467. Ensure that the mark is visible in the center of the setting tool groove.
- If it is not, the sensor must be adjusted. Continue with step 4.
- If it is, continue with step 9.
4. Clean round the fluid filler pipe where it enters the gearbox.
5. Remove the fluid filler pipe's nut and remove the pipe.
6. Undo the selector lever position sensor's bolts.
7. Turn the sensor until that the line marked on it is visible in the center of the tool's notch and tighten the bolts.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 ft. lbs.)
8. Clean and lubricate the fluid filler pipe's O-ring with petroleum jelly (Vaseline) and fit the fluid filler pipe.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 ft. lbs.)
9. Remove the tool and fit the selector lever cable's lever.
Before tightening the nut, move the selector lever to position P (to relieve the cable of tension).
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18.5 ft. lbs.)
10. Refit the battery tray, battery and battery cover.
11. Check that the engine starts when the selector lever is in positions P and N. The engine should not start if the selector lever is in position R. D, 3, 2 or 1. The reversing light should light up only in position R.
12. Set the right time on the clock.
IMPORTANT: On cars with a shift-lock function, incorrect adjustment of the selector lever position sensor could result in disablement of this function (SHIFT-LOCK).
