Throttle Full Open Switch: Testing and Inspection

1985 Renault 18I/Sportwagon L4-2165cc 2.2LSECTION Testing and Inspection

1. Disconnect WOT switch connector.
2. Using a suitable high input impedance digital volt-ohmmeter, test operation of switch by opening and closing switch manually.
3. When switch is closed, resistance should be infinite. When switch is at wide open throttle position, a low resistance should be indicated. If operation is not as described, replace WOT switch.
4. Connect WOT switch wire connector, then turn ignition On.
5. Using suitable voltmeter, measure voltage across diagnostic terminals D2-6 to D2-7. Voltage should be zero at WOT position, and greater than two volts at all other positions.
6. If voltage is always zero, test for short circuit to ground in wire harness or switch. If satisfactory, check for open circuit between ECU connector terminal J2-19 and WOT switch connector. Repair as necessary.
7. If voltage is always greater than two volts, test for open circuit between WOT switch and ground. Repair as necessary.
