Midgate Latch Release Switch Circuit Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the affected latch release switch.
  2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal A and the ground circuit terminal B. Verify the latches activate.
    • If the latches do not activate, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the midgate module.
  4. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the latch release switch.

Midgate Latch Circuit Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the affected latch.
  2. Test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal E and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal D and the ground circuit terminal E.
  4. Press and release a midgate latch release switch. The test lamp should flash ON.
    • If the test lamp does not flash ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the midgate module.
  5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the latch.

Midgate Module Circuit Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at a latch release switch.
  2. Ignition ON, verify battery voltage is present at the switch signal circuit terminal A.
    • If not the specified value test the switch signal circuit for an open/high resistance or short to ground. If the circuit tests normal replace the midgate module.
  3. Connect the harness connector at the latch release switch.
  4. Disconnect the harness connector at a latch.
  5. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal D and the ground circuit terminal E.
  6. Press and release a midgate latch release switch. The test lamp should flash ON.
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the midgate module.
  • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the midgate module.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
