Position Encoding System (PES)

2004 Oldsmobile Bravada RWDSECTION Position Encoding System (PES)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Aztek and 2003 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Position Encoding System (PES) tracks the position of the glass through two limit switches:

  • Soft Stop limit switch
  • Vent limit switch

The sunroof module monitors the limit switches and based on the inputs determines the position of the sunroof glass. As a limit switch closes, the 5 volt reference of either the sunroof limit switch range or soft stop signal circuit, depending on which limit switch is closed, will be shorted to the sunroof limit switch low reference circuit, pulling the 5 volt reference to 0 volts.

The sunroof module understands the position of the sunroof glass based on the different input combinations through the sunroof limit switch soft stop signal and sunroof limit switch range signal inputs.
