Front end discriminating sensor is a crash sensing device used to detect frontal collisions. SDM uses signals from front end discriminating sensor to determine if frontal impact is sufficient enough to warrant air bag module deployment. SDM applies voltage to discriminating sensor reference circuit and monitors voltage at front end discriminating sensor reference circuit in order to verify circuit integrity. If SDM detects a malfunction within discriminating sensor circuit, a DTC will set.
