Fuel Sender Assembly: Installation

  1. Clean the fuel sender sealing flange. Install the NEW fuel sender seal to the fuel tank. Do not fold over or twist the fuel pump strainer when installing the fuel sender assembly, as this will restrict fuel flow. Also, ensure that the fuel pump strainer does not block full travel of float arm.
  2. Install the fuel sender and the fuel sender lock ring. Use the Fuel Sender Lock Ring Tool (J-39765-A1) in order to install the fuel sender lock ring. Install the fuel pipes to the fuel sender. Install the fuel sender sensor electrical connectors. Install the fuel sender shield.
  3. Install the fuel sender shield nuts. Tighten the nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Install the fuel tank.
  4. Lower the vehicle. Add fuel and reinstall the fuel tank filler pipe cap. Connect the negative battery cable. Perform the following procedure in order to inspect for leaks: Turn the ignition on for 2 seconds. Turn the ignition off for 10 seconds. Turn the ignition on. Inspect for fuel leaks.
