- If body rear end system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If body rear end system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform BODY REAR END SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing body rear end system diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Place transmission in Park position. Operate rear compartment lid release switch. If rear compartment lid releases, fault may be intermittent. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS . If rear compartment lid does not release, go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine off. Using scan tool, observe REAR COMPARTMENT LED SWITCH RELEASE input. If scan tool displays INACTIVE, go to next step. If scan tool does not display INACTIVE, go to step 10 .
- Using scan tool, observe REAR COMPARTMENT LED SWITCH RELEASE input. Operate rear compartment lid release switch input. If input does not change state, go to next step. If input state changes, go to step 7 .
- Disconnect rear compartment lid release switch harness connector. Connect a fused jumper between ground and rear compartment lid release switch harness connector Black wire terminal. If scan tool displays ACTIVE, go to next step. If scan tool does not display ACTIVE, go to step 11 .
- Connect fused jumper between rear compartment lid release switch harness connector Black wire terminal and Black/White wire terminal. If scan tool displays ACTIVE, go to step 12 . If scan tool does not display ACTIVE, go to step 13 .
- Using scan tool, observe REAR COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE OUTPUT. Operate rear compartment lid release switch output. If output state changes, go to next step. If output state does not change, go to step 14 .
- Connect a test light between ground and rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector Light Blue wire terminal. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 15 .
- Connect test light between rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector Light Blue wire terminal and Black wire terminal. If test light illuminates, go to step 16 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 17 .
- Using scan tool, observe REAR COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE SWITCH input. Disconnect rear compartment lid release switch harness connector. If scan tool displays INACTIVE, go to step 12 . If scan tool does not display INACTIVE, go to step 18 .
- Test Black wire between rear compartment lid release switch harness connector and BCM harness connector C3 terminal A7. BCM is located under left side of instrument panel, above parking brake. See Figure and Figure . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 21 .
- Check for poor connections at rear compartment lid release switch harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 21 . If problem is not found, go to step 19 .
- Check for short to ground in Black/White wire between rear compartment lid release switch harness connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, go to step 21 .
- Check for poor connections at BCM harness connectors. Repair as necessary. After repair , go to step 21 . If no problem is found, go to step 20 .
- Check for high resistance or open in Light Blue wire between rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector and BCM harness connector C2 terminal A2. BCM is located under left side of instrument panel, above parking brake. See Figure and Figure . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 21 .
- Check for poor connections at rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 21 .
- Repair high resistance or open in Black wire between rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair go to step 21 .
- Repair short to ground in Black wire between rear compartment lid release switch harness connector and BCM harness connector C3 terminal A7. BCM is located under left side of instrument panel, above parking brake. See Figure and Figure . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 21 .
- Replace rear compartment lid switch. See REAR COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 21 .
- Replace and program BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system in order to verify repair. If system does not operate correctly, go to step 3 . If system operates correctly, system is okay.
