Roof Description: Notes
The Sheet Molded Compound (SMC) roof panel (1) is bonded and bolted to become an integral part of the vehicle structure. The top is installed using windshield urethane. Use the Urethane Adhesive Kit GM P/N 12346392, or a urethane adhesive system which meets GM Specification GM3651M, in order to maintain original installation integrity.
Retain the leading edge of the top using adhesive and 2 bolts along the aluminum windshield header (5). Secure the middle section of the top using adhesive and 2 bolts (4) along the hydroformed roof bow (3). Finally, secure the rear edge of the top cross-car using adhesive and 3 bolts along the leading edge of the upper surround panel, i.e., the deck lid close-out area.
Removal of the top does not require windshield removal. Removing the hardtop may destroy the panel. To facilitate removal, General Motors recommends cutting a section out of the hardtop between the windshield header and the roof bow. Removing a section of the top will improve access to the bond areas and will minimize damage to the adjacent areas.
