Diagnostic Aids
The REDUCED POWER lamp will illuminate and the ECM will default to the default throttle authority limp home mode when P1512 is set.
An obstruction blocking the throttle blade from closing completely will set DTC P1512.
Possible causes for P1512 include:
- Carbon buildup on the throttle plate.
- Ice formation in the throttle bore.
- Damaged throttle plate.
- Faulty throttle body.
- Faulty main relay.
- Poor terminal tightness at throttle body or ECM.
Using the scan tool, command idle speed throughout RPM range to ensure smooth throttle operation and response. If throttle plate binds in any position, replace the throttle body.

When to See a Mechanic
