Instrument panel cluster may set Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) under certain conditions. These DTCs may be retrieved using a scan tool. Other conditions which may set a DTC is a loss of serial data communication with one or more modules on Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) data line. These DTCs may be caused by an open or short in UART serial data line.
