Steering Column: Removal

2013 Mini Cooper Countryman, Standard TransSECTION Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL .
  3. Remove lower trim from instrument panel.
  4. Take off collar (1). See Fig 1.
  5. Remove upper section of steering column trim. See STEERING COLUMN UPPER TRIM SECTION .
  6. Remove cable for interlock from steering lock if necessary. See Fig 2.
  7. Remove clamping bolt. Press down on steering spindle. See Figure.
  8. Loosen shear-off screw with or mill off screw head. See Fig 3.
  9. Unfasten all lines leading to steering column from their respective brackets. Unscrew screw. Unlock connector from ignition starter switch and remove. See Fig 4.
  10. Unfasten screws (3) for mechanical adjustment. See Fig 5.
  11. Unfasten screws on support tube. Remove steering column.
