The signal from the fuel tank pressure sensor serves as a control variable for the activation of the fuel tank non-return valve, which is located in the ventilation line between fuel tank and carbon canister.

The sensor signal is also used for monitoring the fuel tank non-return valve by the on-board diagnosis.

The pressure is measured by a piezo element which is embedded in gel. The fuel tank pressure sensor measures the absolute pressure in the fuel tank. The temperature in the fuel tank is measured according to the PTC principle.
