Using Service Tool JD 189

ISSUE:
Service Tool JD 189 has been introduced for checking and setting the distributor body and rotor arm position on AJ6 engines.
ACTION:
To check and/or set the distributor body and rotor arm position, use the following procedure:
^ Un-clip and remove the distributor cap (H.T. leads connected).

^ On the compression stroke of the No. 1 cylinder, set the engine to T.D.C. by aligning the leading edge of the marked tooth on the crankshaft reluctor wheel with the pointer on the timing cover, (Fig. 1).

^ Fit tool JD 189 to the distributor body, (Fig. 2). Make sure that the lug on the tool engages with the notch in the distributor body.
^ If necessary, loosen the distributor clamp bolt and rotate the distributor body until the tool engages with the notch. Then tighten the distributor clamp bolt.
^ Remove the tool and install the distributor cap.
