TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) REPROGRAMMING FOR INFINITI VEHICLES
APPLIED VEHICLE:
Vehicles with reprogrammable TCMs
SERVICE INFORMATION
Transmission Control Module (TCM) reprogramming data will be made available to Infiniti dealerships beginning with the November 15, 2001 ASIST CD. This bulletin is for information and covers the steps required for TCM reprogramming.
IMPORTANT:
The TCM should be reprogrammed only when required by a specific Infiniti Technical Bulletin.
The purpose of TCM reprogramming is:
^ To update the TCM of certain 2002 and later Infiniti vehicles when it is determined to be necessary to do so.
^ Allows the vehicle TCM operating program to be upgraded to the latest operating specifications without removal or replacement of the TCM.
NOTES:
^ The TCM should be reprogrammed only when required by a specific Infiniti Technical Bulletin or as otherwise directed by Infiniti Division.
^ A TCM that has been reprogrammed can be identified by the new TCM P/N displayed by CONSULT-II
^ TCM Reprogramming requires the use of ASIST and CONSULT-II using two cards: the Diagnostic Card (red/white color) and the ECU Reprogramming Software Card (orange color). See the Service Procedure below.
CAUTION:
The TCM can be permanently damaged if the Reprogramming procedure is not followed exactly. Do not attempt Reprogramming if the vehicle or the CONSULT-II batteries are low. Do not disconnect or disturb the CONSULT-II while TCM Reprogramming is in progress. If the TCM is damaged, it must be replaced.
This bulletin introduces the TCM Reprogramming process. It outlines the procedure for transferring TCM Reprogramming data from the ASIST PC to your CONSULT-II unit, as well as the procedure for using CONSULT-II to reprogram a TCM. Refer to the ECU Reprogramming Operations Software Manual (in ASIST) for additional information on using CONSULT-II for TCM Reprogramming.
