A/C COMPRESSOR OPERATION
DESCRIPTION:

A/C compressor operation is controlled by the ECM (Engine Control Module). A simplified A/C compressor circuit diagram is shown.
A/C COMPRESSOR OPERATION
As shown in the above circuit diagram, the ECM controls the A/C compressor by energizing or de-energizing the A/C compressor control relay coil.
Generally, when the ignition switch, blower switch, and A/C switch are all turned ON, the ECM energizes the A/C compressor control relay coil. At this time, the A/C compressor is switched ON.
However, under certain conditions, the ECM disengages the A/C compressor
by de-energizing the A/C compressor control relay coil even though all the
switches are turned ON. This is done in order to ensure easier starting or to prevent engine overheating.

- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
