2002 Honda Civic SiSECTION Shift Lever Bracket Assembly Replacement

  1. Remove the shift lever assembly (see SHIFT LEVER REMOVAL  ).
  2. Pry off the D3 switch cover (A).

  3. Remove the D3 switch (A) by expanding its locks (B). Remove the screws (C), shift lever button (D), spring (E), shift lever knob (F), and shift lever knob cover (G).

  4. Remove the harness bands and tapes.
  5. Pry the lock covers (A) of the D3 switch/park pin switch/A/T gear position indicator panel light harness connector (B), and remove the covers.

  6. Remove the terminal (C) from the connector by pushing the lock tab (D) in the connector using a thin blade screwdriver (E). Remove all six terminals, and replace the connector.
  7. Remove the A/T gear position indicator panel light socket (A). Remove the A/T gear position indicator panel (B), D3 switch and harness (C), and shift lever ring (D) together from the shift lever bracket.

  8. Remove the park pin switch (A).

  9. Remove the shift lock solenoid (A) by expanding its locks (B), and remove the shift lock solenoid plunger (C) and plunger spring (D).

  10. Remove the shift lock stop (E). Remove the shift lock stop cushion (F), if necessary.
  11. Replace the shift lever bracket assembly.
  12. Apply silicone grease to the pin on the shift lever bracket, and install the shift lock stop over the pin. Make sure to install the shift lock stop cushion on the stop.
  13. Install the shift lock solenoid plunger and plunger spring in the shift lock solenoid.
  14. Apply silicone grease to the tip of the shift lock stop, and install the shift lock solenoid by aligning the joint of the shift lock solenoid plunger with the tip of the shift lock stop.
  15. Install the park pin switch.
  16. Insert the D3 switch harness (A) through the shift lever (B), and install the shift lever ring (C) and the A/T gear position indicator panel (D).

  17. Install the A/T gear position indicator panel light socket in the indicator panel.
  18. Install the D3 switch harness terminals (WHT) (A) in the No. 1 and No. 3 cavities. Either D3 switch harness terminal can be installed in the No. 1 and No. 3 cavities.

  19. Install the park pin switch harness terminals (GRN) (B) in the No. 2 and No. 6 cavities. Either park pin switch harness terminal can be installed in the No. 2 and No. 6 cavities.
  20. Install the A/T gear position indicator panel light harness (RED/BLK) (C) in the No. 4 and No. 5 cavities. Either A/T gear position indicator panel light harness terminal can be installed in the No. 4 and No. 5 cavities.
  21. Make sure that all six terminals lock securely, then install the lock covers (D) securely.
  22. Route the D3 switch harness (A) along the harness guide (B), place the mark (C) of the harness on the guide, and tie the harness and guide with the new band (D).

  23. Route the harnesses along the harness guide (E), and tie the harnesses and guide with the new band (F).
  24. Tie the harnesses together into bundles with new tape (A) in two places.

  25. Tie the harnesses and the harness clamp (B) together into a bundle with tape (C).
  26. Point the bevel (A) of the shift lever rod (B) toward the threaded holes (C), and push it into the bottom. Apply silicone grease to the top of the rod.

  27. Install the shift lever knob cover (D).
  28. Apply silicone grease to the shift lever button spring (E), and install the spring, shift lever button (F), and shift lever knob (G).
  29. Apply non-hardening thread lock sealant to screw threads, and secure the shift lever knob to the shift lever.
  30. Install the D3 switch (H) and D3 switch cover (I).
  31. Install the shift lever assembly (see SHIFT LEVER INSTALLATION  ).
