Diagnostic Overview
Climate Control System Functional Test
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The function test tests the functions of the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system and identifies the correct HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) symptom pinpoint test.
REFER to System Operation.
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK THE PCM (Powertrain Control Module) FOR DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, perform PCM (Powertrain Control Module) self-test.
Are any climate control related DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present?
2. CHECK THE BCM (Body Control Module) FOR DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, perform BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.
Are any climate control related DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present?
3. CHECK THE HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) MODULE FOR DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, perform HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module self-test.
Are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) present?
4. CHECK THE BLOWER MOTOR OPERATION
1. Ignition ON.
2. Select panel mode.
3. Observe blower motor operation and select each blower motor speed.
Does the blower motor operate in all ranges?
5. CHECK AIRFLOW OPERATION
1. Select the highest blower motor setting.
2. NOTE: For correct airflow descriptions, REFER to System Operation.
While observing the airflow, select each of the airflow positions (panel, panel/floor, floor, floor/defrost, defrost).
Is the airflow directed to the correct outlets?
6. VERIFY TEMPERATURE CONTROL OPERATION
1. Start the vehicle and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
2. With the A/C (Air Conditioning) off, select panel mode.
3. Change the driver and passenger temperature settings from the coldest to the warmest and back to the coldest.
Does the temperature change between very warm to cool?
7. VERIFY THE A/C (Air Conditioning) CLUTCH DOES NOT ENGAGE WITH A/C (Air Conditioning) OFF
1. With the engine running and the A/C (Air Conditioning) off, select panel mode.
2. Select the coldest temperature setting.
Is the outlet temperature close to ambient temperature?
8. VERIFY A/C (Air Conditioning) CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT IN THE A/C (Air Conditioning) MODE
1. Make sure the ambient air temperature is above 2°C (35.6°F).
2. With the engine running, select panel mode.
3. Press the A/C (Air Conditioning) button (indicator on).
Does the A/C (Air Conditioning) clutch engage when the panel and A/C (Air Conditioning) button (indicator on) is pressed?
9. CHECK THE RECIRCULATED AIR OPERATION
1. With the engine running, press the recirculated air button (indicator off).
2. Select panel mode.
3. Select the highest blower motor setting.
4. Observe airflow noise.
5. Press the recirculated air button (indicator on).
Does the airflow noise increase when the recirculated air mode is selected (indicator on)?
10. CHECK THE LDFTEMP PID (Parameter Identification)
1. Using a scan tool, view the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
2. Monitor HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module PID (Parameter Identification) LDFTTEMP.
Is the temperature coming out of the left floor vent similar to the PID (Parameter Identification)?
11. CHECK THE LDPT PID (Parameter Identification)
1. Using a scan tool view the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
2. Monitor HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module PID (Parameter Identification) LDPT.
Is the temperature coming out of the left panel vent similar to the PID (Parameter Identification)?
12. CHECK THE AIRTEMP_RFP PID (Parameter Identification)
1. Using a scan tool view the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
2. Monitor HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module PID (Parameter Identification) AIRTEMP_RF.
Is the temperature coming out of the right floor vent similar to the PID (Parameter Identification)?
13. CHECK THE AIRTEMP_RP PID (Parameter Identification)
1. Using a scan tool view the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
2. Monitor HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module PID (Parameter Identification) AIRTEMP_RP.
Is the temperature coming out of the right panel vent similar to the PID (Parameter Identification)?
14. CHECK THE INT_TEMP PID (Parameter Identification)
1. Using a scan tool view the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
2. Monitor HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) module PID (Parameter Identification) INT_TEMP.
Is the air temperature at the cabin temperature sensor similar to the PID (Parameter Identification)?
15. CHECK THE TOUCHSCREEN CONTROLS OPERATION
1. Using the touchscreen controls, select each climate control function.
2. Using the touchscreen controls, select each audio control function.
Do all touchscreen controls operate?
