Diagnostic Routine O

Diagnostic Overview

One Or More Demand Lamps Are Inoperative

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 89 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to Demand Lamps .

Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks

- Inspect the bulbs and make sure they are OK.

- Inspect the BCM (Body Control Module) fuse 4 (10A).

- Inspect the interior lamp for damage.

Pinpoint Test

1. CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION

1. Open the left front door and observe the interior courtesy lamps.

Do the interior courtesy lamps illuminate?








2. CHECK ALL THE DEMAND LAMPS

1. Check the operation of all the demand (map and vanity mirror) lamps.

Are all the demand lamps inoperative?








3. BYPASS THE BCM (Body Control Module)

1. Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280D.

2. Connect:





3. Switch any demand (map or vanity mirror) lamp on.

Does the demand lamp illuminate when switched on?








4. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE LAMP

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Inoperative Lamp.

3. Ignition ON.

4. For a vanity mirror lamp, measure:





5. For the glove compartment lamp, measure:





Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?








5. CHECK THE LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. For a vanity mirror lamp, measure:





2. For the glove compartment lamp, measure:





Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?








6. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE MAP/READING LAMP

1. Ignition OFF.

2. Disconnect: Inoperative Lamp.

3. Ignition ON.

4. For a front map/reading lamp (overhead console), measure:





5. For a rear map/reading lamp (with roof opening panel), measure:





6. For a rear map/reading lamp (without roof opening panel) or cargo lamp, measure:





Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?








7. CHECK THE MAP/READING LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

1. For a front interior lamp (overhead console), measure:





2. For a rear interior lamp (with roof opening panel), measure:





3. For a rear interior lamp (without roof opening panel) or cargo lamp, measure:





Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?








8. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION

1. Disconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors.

2. Repair:

- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

3. Reconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.

4. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
