Diagnostic Overview
The Wipers Stay On Continuously - Windshield
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 81 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
REFER to Windshield Wiper Operation .
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH PIDs (Parameter Identifications)
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, view SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
3. While cycling through all windshield wiper/washer switch positions, verify the status of each SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PID (Parameter Identification) changes state:
- Front Wiper Select Switch A (F_WIP_INT_D1)
- Front Wiper Select Switch B (F_WIP_INT_D2)
- Front Wiper Select Switch C (F_WIP_INT_D3)
- Front Wiper Intermittent Data 4 (F_WIP_INT_D4)
- Front Wiper Intermittent Data 5 (F_WIP_INT_D5)
- Front Wiper Command Low Speed (F_WIP_SLO_SW)
- Front Wiper Command High Speed (F_WIPE_FAST_SW)
- Washer Switch Front (F_WASH_SW)
- Single Wipe Stroke (WIPE_SINGLE)
Do all of the PIDs (Parameter Identifications) change state when the wiper/washer switch is cycled through all wiper positions?
2. CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER OPERATION WITH THE SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) DISCONNECTED
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) C2414A.
3. Ignition ON.
4. Verify the windshield wiper operation
Are the windshield wipers still operating?
3. CHECK THE HIGH SPEED FAIL-SAFE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
3. Measure:
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
4. CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
1. Inspect the windshield wiper motor connector.
2. Repair:
- corrosion (replace connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- replace terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- replace pins as necessary
3. Reconnect the windshield wiper motor connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
4. Connect: SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) C2414A
5. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
5. CHECK FOR CORRECT SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) OPERATION
1. Disconnect and inspect all SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) connectors.
2. Repair:
- corrosion (replace connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- replace terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- replace pins as necessary
3. Reconnect the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
4. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
