Removal
WARNING: If a vehicle has been in a crash, inspect the RCM (Restraints Control Module) and the impact sensor (if equipped) mounting areas for deformation. If damaged, restore the mounting areas to the original production configuration. A new RCM (Restraints Control Module) and sensors must be installed whether or not the air bags have deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition is on.
NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
2. NOTE: Index mark the LH CAC (Charge Air Cooler) tube for installation.
For the RH side and vehicles equipped with a 3.5L GTDI (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine.
3. For LH side, remove the ACL (Air Cleaner). REFER to Intake Air System Components - Exploded View .
4. Remove the front impact severity sensor bolt, disconnect the front impact severity sensor electrical connector and remove the front impact severity sensor.
Installation
1. NOTE: Make sure the front impact severity sensor mating surfaces are clean and free of foreign material.
Position the front impact severity sensor, install the front impact severity sensor bolt and connect the front impact severity sensor electrical connector.
- Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
2. For LH side, install the ACL (Air Cleaner). REFER to Intake Air System Components - Exploded View .
3. NOTE: When installing the LH CAC (Charge Air Cooler) tube, align the index marks made during removal.
For the RH side and vehicles equipped with a 3.5L GTDI (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) engine.
4. Repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - without Intelligent Access (IA) .
