Ignition Lock: Service and Repair

1995 Eagle Summit Wagon AWD L4-1795cc 1.8L SOHCSECTION Service and Repair
NOTE: Heads of bolts securing steering lock assembly shear off when bolts are tightened. Replacement of steering lock assembly may require that steering column be removed, as these bolts must be cut or slotted to permit removal with a screwdriver. When lock assembly is installed, new shear bolts must be used and bolts should be tightened until bolt heads twist off.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove steering wheel as described under "Steering Wheel, Replace.
2. Remove lap heater duct.
3. Remove upper and lower column covers, then screws attaching combination switch to steering lock.
4. Disconnect steering lock electrical connector, then use a suitable tool to cut grooves in heads of attaching bolts and remove screws using a screwdriver.
5. Remove steering lock.
6. Reverse procedure to install.
