The PCM controls all ignition system functions and constantly corrects the spark timing. The PCM monitors information from various sensor inputs that may include the following components, if applicable:
- Ambient pressure sensors (BARO)
- Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
- Engine knock sensors
- Intake air temperature (IAT) sensors
- Mass air flow (MAF) sensors
- Throttle position sensor
- Transmission gear position or range information sensors
- Vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
