Subject: 2011 Model Year Light Duty Truck - Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Structure Changes

2011 GM Light Duty Trucks
2011 HUMMER H2, H3

To comply with Federal Regulatory changes beginning with the 2011 model year, General Motors is making changes to the VIN system. Each vehicle shall be uniquely identified in VIN positions 4-8. Prior to 2010, each vehicle was uniquely identified using the World Make/Manufacturer Identifier (WMI) in VIN positions 1-3. As a result of this change, General Motors LLC has made the following changes to comply with FMVSR 565 for the 2011 model year.
