Starter Replacement (6.6L)
Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning (Service Precautions) .
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With Single Battery) (Service and Repair)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With Auxiliary Battery) (Service and Repair)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With Dual Batteries) (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (Chevrolet) (Service and Repair)Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (GMC) (Service and Repair) .
3. Working through the wheelhouse, remove the starter solenoid cable nut (6) from the starter.
4. Remove the starter solenoid cable (7) from the starter.
5. Working through the wheelhouse, remove the engine wiring harness lead nut (3).
6. Remove the engine wiring harness lead (2) from the starter motor.
7. Remove the exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter pipe. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (With LU3) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (With V8 Engine) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (With LMM) (Service and Repair) .
8. From under the vehicle, remove the starter motor bolts (1).
9. Remove the starter motor.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the starter motor.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution) .
2. Install the starter motor bolts (1).
Tighten the bolts to 85 Nm (63 lb ft).
3. Install the exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter pipe. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (With LU3) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (With V8 Engine) (Service and Repair)Catalytic Converter Replacement (With LMM) (Service and Repair) .
4. Install the engine wiring harness lead (2) to the starter motor.
5. Install the engine wiring harness lead nut (3).
Tighten the nut to 3.4 Nm (30 lb in).
6. Install the starter solenoid cable (7) to the starter.
7. Install the starter solenoid cable nut (6) to the starter.
Tighten the nut to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
8. Install the wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (Chevrolet) (Service and Repair)Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (GMC) (Service and Repair) .
9. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With Single Battery) (Service and Repair)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With Auxiliary Battery) (Service and Repair)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With Dual Batteries) (Service and Repair) .
