Fuel System Cleaning

Notice: Refer to Cover and Plug Openings Notice.

Important: When flushing the fuel tank, treat the fuel and water mixture as a hazardous material. Handle the material in accordance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Important: Whenever the fuel tank is cleaned, inspect the fuel pump fuel strainer. If the fuel pump fuel strainer is contaminated, replace the fuel pump fuel strainer and inspect the fuel pump.

Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.

1. Remove the fuel sender assembly.
2. Inspect the fuel pump inlet for dirt and debris. If dirt and debris are found, replace the fuel pump.
3. Flush fuel tank with hot water.
4. Pour the water out of the fuel sender assembly opening in the fuel tank. Rock the fuel tank in order to ensure that the removal of the water from the fuel tank is complete.
5. Allow tank to dry completely before reassembly.
6. Install the fuel sender assembly.
