Valve Stem Oil Seal and Valve Spring Replacement

^ Tools Required
- J 43649 Valve Spring Compressor
- J 36017 Valve Guide Seal Remover

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the camshaft.
2. Remove the camshaft roller followers.





3. Install the J 43649 to the cylinder head.
4. Remove the spark plugs.





5. Install an air hose adapter into the spark plug hole.
6. Attach an air hose to the adapter
7. Using the compressed air, pressurize the cylinder to 690 kPa (100 psi).
8. Compress the valve spring using the J 43649.





9. Remove the valve spring keepers.
10. Remove the valve spring retainer.





11. Remove the valve spring.





12. Using the J 36017 remove the valve seal.

Installation Procedure





1. Using the J 36017 install the NEW valve seal. Fully seat the seal onto the valve guide.





2. Install the valve spring.





3. Install the valve spring retainer.
4. Compress the valve spring using the J 43649.
5. Install the valve spring keepers.





6. Disconnect the air hose from the adapter.
7. Remove the air hose adapter from the spark plug hole.





8. Remove the J 43649 from the cylinder head.
9. Install the spark plugs.





10. Install the camshaft roller followers.
11. Install the camshaft.
