Windshield Replacement
Tools Required
* J 24402-A Glass Sealant Cold Knife Remover
* J 39032 Stationary Glass Removal Tool
* Urethane Adhesive Kit GM P/N 12346392 or Equivalent
* Isopropyl Alcohol or Equivalent
* Cartridge-type Caulking Gun
* Commercial-type Utility Knife
* Razor Blade Scraper
* Suction Cups
* Plastic Paddle
Removal Procedure
Important: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
1. Remove the windshield wiper arms. Refer to Wiper Arm Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
2. Remove the fixed antenna, if equipped. Refer to Fixed Antenna Mast Replacement.
3. Open the hood.
4. Remove the air inlet grille. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement (Service and Repair) in Body Front End.
5. Remove the windshield frame filler panel. Refer to Filler Panel Replacement - Upper Front Fender () in Body Front End.
6. Remove the inside rearview mirror. Refer to Rearview Mirror Replacement (Rearview Mirror Replacement) .
7. Remove the OnStar(R) navigation antenna. Refer to Navigation Antenna Replacement in Cellular Communication.
8. Remove the OnStar(R) cellular antenna. Refer to Coupling Replacement - Antenna Inner and Coupling Replacement - Antenna Outer in Cellular Communication.
Caution: Refer to Defroster Outlet Caution in Cautions and Notices.
9. Cover to protect the following parts from broken glass:
* The upper dash pad
* The defroster outlets and A/C outlets
* The seats
* The carpeting
10. Remove the defroster vent grille. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper (Service and Repair) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
Caution: Refer to Glass and Sheet Metal Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.
Important: The windshield reveal molding is a 1-piece molding and fills the cavities between the body and windshield.
If the windshield reveal molding is stretched or damaged, it can not be reused.
11. Remove the windshield interior garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper Pillar) in Interior Trim.
12. Using a sharp utility knife, carefully cut the edge of the reveal molding (1) in order to expose the urethane adhesive bead.
13. Apply a double layer of masking tape to the edge of the roof panel.
14. Apply a double layer of masking tape to the inner edges of the A-pillars.
15. Remove the lower windshield supports (1) from the plenum panel, if equipped.
16. Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
* Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
* The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
* UseJ 24402-A , J 39032 or equivalent in order to remove the window.
17. Remove the bottom of the window from the urethane adhesive using a long utility knife or similar tool. Keep the cutting edge of the utility knife against the glass. Do this from inside the vehicle.
18. Remove the windshield (1) from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant (2) .
Installation Procedure
1. Connect the OnStar(R) navigation antenna. Refer to Navigation Antenna Replacement in Cellular Communication.
2. Install the stationary window into the opening. Refer to Urethane Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows (Urethane Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows) .
3. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper (Service and Repair) .
4. Install the windshield interior garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper Pillar) in Interior Trim.
5. Install the inside rearview mirror. Refer to Rearview Mirror Replacement (Rearview Mirror Replacement) .
6. Install the air inlet grille. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement (Service and Repair) in Body Front End.
7. Install the windshield frame filler panel. Refer to Filler Panel Replacement - Upper Front Fender () in Body Front End.
8. Close the hood
9. Install the fixed antenna. Refer to Fixed Antenna Mast Replacement.
10. Install the windshield wiper arms. Refer to Wiper Arm Replacementin Wipers/Washer Systems.
11. Remove the double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
12. Install the OnStar(R) cellular antenna. Refer to Coupling Replacement - Antenna Inner and Coupling Replacement - Antenna Outer in Cellular Communication.
