REMOVAL PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
^ Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
^ Be careful when you handle a sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). Do not strike or jolt the SDM. Before applying power to the SDM:
^ Remove any dirt, grease, etc. from the mounting surface
^ Position the SDM horizontally on the mounting surface
^ Point the arrow on the SDM toward the front of the vehicle
^ Tighten all of the SDM fasteners and SDM bracket fasteners to the specified torque value
Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.
2. Remove the passenger knee bolster.
3. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint I/P module harness connector.
4. Disconnect the inflatable restraint I/P module pigtail connector.

5. Remove the mounting fasteners (2) from the inflatable restraint I/P module.
6. Remove the inflatable restraint I/P module (3) from the I/P carrier (1).
7. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Install the inflatable restraint I/P module (3) to the I/P carrier (1).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the mounting fasteners (2) to the inflatable restraint I/P module.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
3. Connect the inflatable restraint I/P module pigtail connector.
4. Install the CPA to the inflatable restraint I/P module harness connector.
5. Install the passenger knee bolster.
