Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble

ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
- Tools Required
- J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers
1. Install the lock module assembly (1) onto the steering column housing assembly.
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Screw the 3 pan head tapping screws (2) into the lock module assembly.
- Tighten the pan head tapping screws to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).
2. Install the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (1 ) onto the lock module assembly (2).
3. Screw the 2 tapping screws into the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (1).
- Tighten the tapping screws to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).
4. Install the key alarm connector (3) onto the lock module assembly (2).
4.1. Push the key alarm connector (1) into the lock module assembly (2).
4.2. Rotate the key alarm connector 90 degrees so that the key alarm connector locks into place.
5. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1).
- Place the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position.
- Place the gear shift lever clevis into the PARK position.
- Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the slot in the lock module assembly.
6. Adjust the park lock cable assembly.
6.1. Use the shift lever clevis to put the column in the PARK position.
6.2. Use the key to put the ignition switch in the OFF-LOCK position. Remove the key.
6.3. Unlock the adjuster ring on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396.
6.4. Pull on the park lock cable until the park lock latch contacts the shift lever clevis. Release the park lock cable.
6.5. Securely lock the adjuster ring in place on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396.
7. Inspect the park lock cable assembly.
7.1. Use the key to put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position. The shift lever clevis should not shift out of the park position.
7.2. Turn the key to the run position and put the shift lever clevis in the NEUTRAL position.
7.3. With the shift lever clevis in the NEUTRAL position the lock cylinder should not go into the OFF-LOCK position.
7.4. Put the shift lever clevis into the PARK position.
7.5. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position. Remove the key.
8. Install the upper steering column housing components. Refer to Turn Signal Cancel Cam. Bearing Thrust Washer - Assemble.

- J 41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers
1. Install the lock module assembly (1) onto the steering column housing assembly.
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

- Tighten the pan head tapping screws to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).

- Tighten the tapping screws to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).
4. Install the key alarm connector (3) onto the lock module assembly (2).
4.1. Push the key alarm connector (1) into the lock module assembly (2).
4.2. Rotate the key alarm connector 90 degrees so that the key alarm connector locks into place.
5. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1).
- Place the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position.
- Place the gear shift lever clevis into the PARK position.
- Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the slot in the lock module assembly.
6. Adjust the park lock cable assembly.
6.1. Use the shift lever clevis to put the column in the PARK position.
6.2. Use the key to put the ignition switch in the OFF-LOCK position. Remove the key.
6.3. Unlock the adjuster ring on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396.
6.4. Pull on the park lock cable until the park lock latch contacts the shift lever clevis. Release the park lock cable.
6.5. Securely lock the adjuster ring in place on the park lock cable assembly with J 41396.
7. Inspect the park lock cable assembly.
7.1. Use the key to put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position. The shift lever clevis should not shift out of the park position.
7.2. Turn the key to the run position and put the shift lever clevis in the NEUTRAL position.
7.3. With the shift lever clevis in the NEUTRAL position the lock cylinder should not go into the OFF-LOCK position.
7.4. Put the shift lever clevis into the PARK position.
7.5. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position. Remove the key.
8. Install the upper steering column housing components. Refer to Turn Signal Cancel Cam. Bearing Thrust Washer - Assemble.
