When working with batteries observe the following precautions:

1. Never use a booster/starter which has a voltage rating above 12 volts to start engine.

2. Always ensure the battery is properly connected to the vehicle prior to attempting to start engine.

3. Do not disconnect the battery when the engine is running.

4. When charging a battery, be sure battery cables are disconnected.

5. The battery contains highly corrosive electrolyte (acid) and produces explosive gases (hydrogen and oxygen). Avoid getting electrolyte on skin, clothing, or painted surfaces, and do not create any sparks near the battery.

When to See a Mechanic
