This information applies to Federal and California 1982 Cavaliers and California only 1982 Chevettes with manual transmissions and 1982 Citation and Camaro with manual transmission and 2.8L V6 engines (engine Code X in Citation and Code 1 in Camaro).
When diagnosing a vehicle exhibiting a Code 34 (map sensor), the diagnostic charts in Section 6E of the service manual should be followed. If the diagnostic chart indicates the map sensor is functioning properly, a new PROM should be installed as shown on the attached chart. This PROM has been calibrated to prevent a Code 34 from being set when the map sensor is functioning properly.
NOTICE: The ECM part number of the 1982 Cavalier will have to be known in order to select the proper replacement PROM. This number is located in the upper right hand corner of the ECM identification label. This label is located on the ECM, next to the PROM access window.
