On models with pulse wipers, check system operation with pulse control module removed. If problem is eliminated, pulse control is defective. Refer to Fig. 13, to check wiper motor independent of vehicle wiring.
Wiper Inoperative or Intermittent
1. Blown fuse.
2. Open circuit in feed wire (No. 2 terminal on wiper motor).
3. Loose mounting of wiper switch.
4. Open circuit in wire to wiper switch (No. 1 terminal on wiper motor).
5. Defective wiper switch.
6. Broken or damaged gear train.
7. Poor solder connections at terminal board.
8. Poor splice joints at brush plate.
9. Binding or damaged motor brushes.
10. Open circuit in armature or series field.
Motor Will Not Shut Off
1. Grounded wire between motor terminal 1 and wiper switch.
2. Defective motor park switch.
3. Grounded leads between motor terminal board and brush holder.
4. Grounded shunt field.
Motor Operates At Low Speed Only
1. Defective wiper switch.
2. Grounded wire between motor terminal 3 and wiper switch.
3. Grounded black wire between motor terminal board and shunt field or grounded shunt field.Motor Runs At High Speed Only
1. Defective wiper switch.
2. Open circuit between motor terminal 3 and wiper switch.
3. Open circuit in black wire between motor terminal board and shunt field, or open shunt field.
Blades Do Not Return to Full Park Position
1. Loose wiper ground strap connection.
2. Park switch defective or contacts dirty.
High Speed Too Fast
1. Resistor defective.
