1. Remove steering wheel as described under ``Horn Sounder & Steering Wheel'' procedure.
2. Using a screw driver pry up and out to free cover from lock, Fig. 7.
3. Position lock plate compressing tool No. J-23653 on end of steering shaft and compress lock plate, Fig. 7.
4. Pry snap ring out of groove and discard, then remove tool J-23653 and lift lock plate off end of shaft.
5. Slide canceling cam, upper bearing preload spring and thrust washer off end of shaft.
6. Rotate multi-function lever to off position, then pull lever straight out to disengage.
7. Depress hazard warning knob and unscrew knob.
8. Remove two screws, pivot arm and spacer, Fig. 8.
9. Wrap upper part of connector with tape to prevent snagging of wires during switch removal, Fig. 9.
10. Remove three switch attaching screws and pull switch straight up guiding wires through column housing.
